Job Summary
UC Berkeley Extension, the professional and continuing education division of the University of California, Berkeley, is accepting applications for part-time online course developer(s) for its User Experience Design Program (UX). Responsibilities
 

The length of these part-time, non-tenure track, academic positions are by agreement and based upon project milestones and deliverables. We are currently seeking part-time online course developer(s) with subject matter expertise in the following areas:
 

• User Experience Design

• User Interface Design

• Information Architecture

• User Research

• Content Strategy

 

Part-time online course developer will:

​

• Collaborate with Instructional Designer on course design and framework.

• Produce scripts for all media two weeks prior to recording (with help from Instructional Designer).

• Provide imagery examples or descriptions for each script to produce media.

• Provide raw content for each module, including learning objectives, reading assignments, discussion prompts, assignment instructions, etc.

• Collaborate with Instructional Designer on design of learning activities and learning strategies.

• Provide content for student assessments.

• Provide quality assurance review of content, including media content.

• Attend scheduled video/audio recordings at UC Berkeley, as needed.

 

Qualifications

​

• Bachelor's degree required in UX design, web design and development, product design and development, graphic design, interaction design, human computer interaction, game design and development, filmmaking, animation, cognitive science, psychology or sociology (Masters or Ph.D. preferred).

• 3 years or more of professional industry experience in UX Design or UX research or related area (required).

• Experience writing technical content, project specs, scripts, syllabi, learning objectives, learning activities, assignments, assessments, exams, and quizzes (required).

• Excellent research skills (required).

• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail (required).

• Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills (required).

• Ability to commit time to approximately 12-15 hours a week over the course of 4-6 months. You must be available for occasional in-person meetings and recording sessions in Berkeley, CA as well as phone/video conferences M-F between 9am-5pm Pacific Standard Time (PST) (required).

• Experience with audio recording, including voice overs for videos and/or PowerPoint presentations (preferred).

• Sketch story boards to produce animations (preferred).

• Experience with teaching adult learners in a college/university environment (preferred).

• Corporate teaching, coaching or training experience (preferred).

• Experience or comfort using the following technologies (preferred): Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Panopto, Angel, Blackboard, Moodle, EdX, etc.); Camtasia; iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote); Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.); Google Home and Office tools (docs, sheets, slides, etc.); online file sharing (e.g., Google drive, Box, Dropbox, etc.); Online tele/video conferencing tools (e.g., Google Hangouts, Skype, Zoom, BlueJeans, Adobe Connect, etc.); online shared calendars (e.g., Google calendar, Outlook, etc.).
