Birmingham-Southern College currently has an opening for an Instructional Designer/Technologist.

 

The role of the Instructional Designer is to provide consultation and support services in instructional design, strategies, assessment, technology, and blended learning for faculty. This individual will also work with faculty to develop new and effective blended and other digital learning content to stimulate and support innovation in digital learning. The Instructional Designer/Technologist will maintain and support the campus-wide learning management system, Moodle. They will also consult with faculty on instructional design in order to achieve student learning objectives; assist faculty in use of technology as a pedagogical tool; and help to facilitate faculty-led digital learning initiatives, including on-line course development, across campus. This position will also design, develop, and deliver workshops and training to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices and act as a liaison between personnel in Academic Affairs and Information Technology, as needed.

 

The qualified candidate will have demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications, learning management systems, and other educational tools. Must also have knowledge and ability to diagnose and remedy basic difficulties with applications. The ability to troubleshoot, work on multiple projects concurrently, and work with diverse groups and individuals at any and all levels of an organization is essential. Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with faculty to assess learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions and curricula. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and build strong relationships with a diverse group of users and support staff are required. A Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, computer science, media, instructional technology, or related field and two years of instructional design and development experience is required. A Master’s degree in instructional design, education, computer science, media, instructional technology, or related field and/or experience teaching in K-12 or post-secondary environment or developing and delivering workshops to adults is preferred, as are on-line course development experience and experience in managing a learning management system like Moodle.
