Instructional Designer/eLearning Job Description:
We are looking for an Instructional Designer to be responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of online healthcare educational content. The desirable candidate brings a strong grounding in educational theory (including e-learning and adult learning theory), as well as strong project management skills, experience with digital publishing or online course production/development processes, digital content asset management, and familiarity with learning management systems.

 

The Instructional Designer will work collaboratively with educators, staff and other professionals across the healthcare education continuum to support the production and maintenance of online learning modules which teach pediatric residents how to provide age-appropriate information about positive parenting behaviors, and how to role model those behaviors. This position reports to the Director of Curriculum Operations.

 

Mount Sinai Parenting Center: The Mount Sinai Parenting Center is located in the Department of Pediatrics in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The goal of the center is to ensure that every pediatric healthcare interaction promotes improvement in the parent/caregiver’s parenting skills or knowledge. In this groundbreaking partnership with the Bezos Family Foundation and their existing program VROOM, the Parenting Center aims to promote positive parenting by saturating the hospital environment with parenting tips and information, training all related staff and advocating the use of the free app providing evidence-based information for parents.

 

Responsibilities: e-Learning Design & Development

 

  • Support the course development process, working closely with production and other staff to create, implement, and improve best practices for e-learning content and product development

  • Provide instructional design leadership and support in collaborative work with medical educators, authors, and content experts as needed to ensure delivery of quality curriculum

  • Create, maintain and improve instructional design templates and guidelines

  • Create and edit raw content, storyboards, and media assets and work with production team to ensure final delivery meets instructional design templates and guidelines

  • Ensure new and revised content and assessments are aligned to program- and course-level curricular goals, expected student outcomes and learning objectives

  • Be familiar with various instructional design pedagogies, learning design models, and adult learning theory

  • Identify technology, features, and functions to enhance programs and courses

  • Keep current with new and emerging technology-supported learning and instructional design opportunities Project Management

  • Take ownership of assigned projects

  • Implement standard project management processes and protocols including meeting management (onsite and virtual) and project planning (timelines, milestones, deliverables, resources, schedules)

  • Track and report on the assigned workflow

  • Track and report on project metrics

  • Track and analyze data such as student performance, feedback, and completion rates to inform revisions and updates

  • Assist in improvement of department processes and best practices

  • Perform basic website issue troubleshooting via phone or email for our site and all potential future sites implementing this curriculum
     

Experience, Skills & Abilities Experience:

 

  • At least 4-6 years of broad-based experience in online instructional design and e-learning design and development, preferably in higher education Curriculum design, development and mapping

  • Project management including management of multiple simultaneous tasks

  • Product development experience

  • Experience with adult and nontraditional learners

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, assessment, and approaches to online pedagogy and facilitation Technology

  • Google Productivity Apps

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Familiarity and high comfort level with different ed. tech. (LMS and content authoring tools)

  • Organized, effective and self-motivated

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as in a team

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, virtual team-based environment

  • Aptitude for and agility with new technology in an ever-changing environment
