Job Title: Instructional Designer

Qualifications:
The candidate should have outstanding communication, project management skills and ability to motivate and manage subject matter experts (SMEs) through the course development process. Collaborating with faculty and SMEs, the ID evaluates curricular materials (courses, technologies, modules) based on quality rubrics. They provide expertise on the effectiveness of learning resources to meet learning outcomes. Working one-on-one and in small teams, the ID ensures course development is completed on time and within budget.

 

The ID reports to the Director of Online Programs to manage the course development process for PhilaU Online programs and related tech-enabled curricular efforts across the university.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • 2+ years of professional experience designing, developing and managing online and blended curriculum, using instructional design principles and best practices

  • Experience and advanced course-building skill with Learning Management Systems (Blackboard) and online conferencing software

  • Familiarity with Open Education Resources (OER) and Section 508 accessibility standards

  • Experience and skills with faculty new to teaching in online and blended formats

  • Experience managing complex projects

  • Experience with Quality Matters (QM) rubrics (preferred) NOTE: This is not a remote position. The candidate must live in commuting distance to our Philadelphia campus.

  • Education Required: Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, education or related field

 

Responsibilities:

 

Primary responsibilities:

 

  • Manages the course development process

  • Evaluates curricular materials in LMS, (currently Blackboard Learn)

  • Creates and implements faculty development programs to support course development and the integration of technology tools

  • Designs new and redesigns existing courses based on universal design (UDL) and accessibility principles, aligning assessments to objectives

  • Develops training materials for online faculty

  • Researches and integrates Open Education Resources (OER) into curriculum

  • Conceptualizes instructionally sound, interactive, engaging web-based courses with components that focus on applicable real-world/workplace skills in line with PhilaU’s Nexus Learning approach
     

Other responsibilities:
 

  • Assists Director of Online Programs with faculty hiring, training and orientation

  • Completes instructional design documentation to ensure quality and consistency

  • Teaches online courses as needed
