Job Title: Instructional Designer/Learning Architect

Organization: American Association of Critical-Care Nurses

Location: Aliso Viejo, CA

Position Purpose:
The Learning Architect provides expertise in the planning, development and review of technology-based learning products.  Working closely with the Digital Marketing, IT and Education Strategy staff, this position leverages training resources on AACN’s technology platforms to ensure innovative, cost effective technology-based products and services.

Accountabilities and Results: achieved by this position include the following.  Other accountabilities may be assigned.

 

1. Translates customer needs, environmental factors and technological opportunities to determine effective learning interventions that support the association’s education and learning strategy.
 

  • In collaboration with the Education Strategist, IT and Digital Marketing researches and evaluates technologies that enhance or expand the association’s ability to deliver learning products.

  • Identifies opportunities to enhance existing learning products using technological tools.

  • Applies change management skills as necessary to introduce new learning interventions.
     

2. Creates learning interventions based on sound instructional strategies.
 

  • Applies knowledge of instructional design, E-Learning design, and adult learning theory to the design and delivery of new technology-based learning programs, including blended E-Learning programs, web-based informal/social learning activities and web-based clinical resources and tools.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of learning and makes recommendations for improvements and/or enhancements.

  • Coordinates processes to ensure proper assignment of CNE to learning activities.
     

3.    Leads project development and implementation for assigned projects.

 

  • Organizes and leads project teams, ensuring coordination and alignment with internal departments.  Identifies content experts to participate in specific projects.  Supports and facilitates their work in support of projects, providing the overarching perspective to ensure projects remain aligned with AACN project goals and objectives.

  • Develops project schedules and budgets aligned with internal and external resources, coordinates to meet project goals, and manages projects to closure.

  • Facilitates project meetings, builds consensus and addresses conflict to ensure project outcomes are met.
     

4.     Ensures operationally effective administrative systems.

 

  • Identifies vendor solutions for education.  Maintains relationships with vendors, and ensures compliance to contracted services.

 

Skills Required:

 

  1. Advanced knowledge of and experience in the application of learning principles to web-based training design.

  2. Skilled at designing blended learning programs that provide a comprehensive learning experience.

  3. Skilled in instructional design, content analysis, needs analysis, simulation design and program evaluation.

  4. Knowledge of user experience and web usability principles.

  5. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
     

Education and/or Experience:
 

  1. Masters in Educational or Instructional Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.

  2. Minimum 5 years designing E-Learning products, with experience designing informal/social learning tools and strategies.

  3. Minimum 3 years leading learning development teams; experience leading interdisciplinary teams.

  4. Experience managing external vendors.
