Therefore, Rush is launching this exciting new position of Director of Instructional Design and Learning Innovation to better support faculty with their instructional design opportunities.

 

The Director of Instructional Design and Learning Innovation position serve as a key business partner for the university and college leadership while developing a collaborative relationship with academic departments. In this entrepreneurial role, you’ll join one of the nation’s leading academic health centers. The director facilitates the university’s instructional design constructs, with a strong focus online and hybrid learning efforts. This largely involves creating institution-wide instructional standards, quality assessment and effective administrative practices. As director, you’ll infuse innovation into the development of instructional designs as well as faculty training, assessment of the learning tools and utilization of technology. In collaborating with various university offices including Faculty Affairs, Library, Simulation Center, Interprofessional Continuing Education and Information Services, you’ll deliver comprehensive faculty professional development and work with the program that delivers development opportunities. It is imperative that you maintain an internet/intranet presence to provide key services and operational offerings for faculty and students. You will also act as a representative of Rush University as the leader of online and blended learning at regional, state or national meetings or at conferences. We’re set on establishing resources on current best practices, innovations and emerging trends in online and blended learning. To help us do it, you’ll oversee the development and maintenance of an online repository and web presence that includes these resources. Similarly, you’ll oversee the maintenance of metrics concerning faculty training, workshops and participation in professional development. This includes the analysis of data to improve service to the faculty. Instructional designers and technologists will look to you as a leader in personnel management, staff development and providing an engaging and supportive work environment. You’ll be responsible for assisting with the preparation of the annual center budget and monthly review of expenses and variances. When necessary, you will maintain appropriate records and data to produce performance and external reports. Finally, you will participate in relevant policy and planning committees.

 

A graduate degree in a relevant field is required for this role. Candidates with a Ph.D. or Ed.D. are preferred. You should also have at least five years of experience designing and facilitating faculty training for online and blended course design and teaching. In addition, you will need at least two years of experience in staff management and leadership development. An in-depth knowledge of federal and accreditation guidelines related to online and blended learning will be an asset in this role. Candidates should also have significant knowledge and experience with best practices learning management systems and instructional technologies. High-level organization acumen and an ability to manage vertically will make you an effective leader. You should also have strong talent assessment, management and leadership development abilities. The director is expected to have strong data-driven decision-making skill. Above all you must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with key constituents.
