ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF DISTANCE LEARNING: INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN (JobID #6004)
The Assistant Director of Distance Learning (AD) Instructional Design ensures that fully online and hybrid programs are on the forefront of practice in instructional design. The AD is responsible for the design and production of online/hybrid programs; supervises the work of a Distance Learning (DL) instructional design team; works with faculty across disciplines; and engages with peer professionals in the CSU and at state, national and international levels. The AD collaborates with CSUN faculty and instructional designers to identify and apply instructional strategies and content for online or hybrid courses and programs. Projects include undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs. The AD works closely with the DL director, instructional designers, technologists, staff and faculty. The AD also collaborates with the DL director and instructional design team to help faculty develop best approaches to course design and teaching. The AD provides faculty with information regarding ADA compliance, copyright information, and CSUN policy and compliance issues. Working with the instructional design team, the AD ensures faculty are well versed in using the learning management system (Canvas) and leveraging technologies such as Zoom and Adobe Connect. The AD and instructional design team also provide ongoing instructional and technical support to faculty, and ensure data security management. The AD engages in instructional design work with faculty; supervises an instructional design team; and researches innovative educational technologies.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree required; doctorate preferred in instructional design or related field from a regionally accredited university in the United States, or a similar ministry‐validated institution in another country. Comprehensive knowledge of educational and instructional design theories and emerging technologies is required. The applicant must be active in the field and have knowledge about forefront models and issues; experience with designing educational solutions for mid-career professionals; at least three years of experience developing online, hybrid and web‐enhanced courses; experience supervising staff and leading and collaborating with project teams; online teaching and training experience; and strong English verbal and written communication skills.
