Job Title: Instructional Designer

Drury University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Instructional Designer and to participate as a member of our Online Education team.

 

Collaboration is a fundamental component of this position and this department. The candidate must be highly skilled at collaborating with faculty, subject matter experts, administrators, and colleagues. And while the ability to work in a team environment will be crucial, so too is the ability to work independently; motivation and initiative are essential. This position requires someone who is organized, can set priorities, and is an effective time manager.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Provide support to faculty in designing, building, and revising of instructional experiences that positively influence teaching and learning for online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. This includes recommending the appropriate tools, media, and teaching strategies to accomplish course goals, objectives, and outcomes; assists with the identification, selection, and application of appropriate assessment tools and strategies needed by faculty.

  • Train and support faculty in the effective and efficient use of instructional technology, online tools, course design, and online instruction via workshops, one-on-one sessions, training videos/documents, and other technology-driven formats.

  • Support faculty in effective use of video, synchronous course delivery, and other relevant technology to meet course objectives as well as the technical process and the delivery of the final product in Moodle.

  • Oversee the course development process, ensuring deadlines are met and online and blended courses adhere to university and accessibility standards.

  • Identify and assist in implementing innovative and effective online learning techniques, as deemed appropriate by academic leadership; explore and provide information to the academic community on emerging technologies.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree Instructional Technologies/Design, Education, Education Technology, or related field

  • 3+ years of experience in instructional design or closely related area

  • In-depth knowledge of Moodle

  • Experience with graphic design, video editing, micro-learning, responsive design, gamification, simulations, and animation/motion graphics

  • Knowledge of best practices in instructional technologies, online, blended, and face-to-face pedagogy is required. 

  • Ability to conduct sound research and bring appropriate innovation to instructors

  • Flexible, upbeat, and energetic self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to supervise and track multiple ongoing projects simultaneously

  • Excellent public speaking skills, including the ability to provide training sessions for large and small groups

  • Ability to establish and maintain cordial and effective communications with faculty, departments, colleges, and other campus stakeholders
