Summary
CAPA is seeking an exceptional Instructional Designer in the Academic Affairs Department to support faculty developing and teaching online, blended, and COIL-enhanced courses and programs by determining the needs of students and faculty; developing and adapting teaching materials and collaborating with faculty in the development of blended and COIL-enhanced programs; evaluating blended and COIL programs; learning and developing e-learning and COIL pedagogies; and coaching faculty using new technologies including Canvas, associated collaborative tools and synchronous team teaching video conferencing hardware and software.
The incumbent will be first and foremost a natural collaborator with team teaching and COIL experience working in groups and with individual faculty, often remotely, to facilitate the migration of traditionally taught programs into a Canvas environment and to further develop them into blended and COIL enhanced programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop custom curriculum plans for programs of study, working closely with department chairs and program directors; design the delivery of curriculum content, including syllabi, study units and examinations within individual courses; work individually with faculty and/or program coordinators to provide guidance on the effective use of online tools.

Review and collaborate with faculty members on adaptation of traditional teaching materials and expansion of new online, blended and COIL-enhanced course designs and teaching materials in Canvas prior to start of the semester.

Research and stay abreast of best practices, effective strategies, and new technologies for COIL-enhanced and online courses; communicate such developments to faculty, staff, team and subject matter experts.

Collaborate on the development of resources and materials that support faculty teaching online in Canvas, associated collaborative tools and COIL-enhanced team teaching and maintain and develop a knowledge base of templates, designs, FAQs etc.

Assist faculty to integrate video conferencing, recording, and editing into their program designs; evaluate use of video conferencing by faculty for synchronous and asynchronous teaching COIL teaching and make recommendations for changes.

Develop and model new e-learning and COIL pedagogies using emerging technologies and help faculty use them in their courses; develop and lead workshops on learning pedagogies for faculty.

Provide instructional design expertise on special projects, including new product development, lecture capture and learning management applications; provide ad hoc system administration and support for Canvas and associated-learning tools, as needed.

Regularly meet online and occasionally visit all academic staff and faculty in the centers to promote the use of technologies to improve and develop blended, online and COIL-enhanced teaching and learning, co-ordinate activities such as workshops and conferences to achieve this; participate actively in department meetings, etc.

Participate in special projects and work on committees as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
-
A minimum of 5 years of experience of teaching and developing blended learning and COIL material within a learning management system, preferably Canvas, is required.

Master's Degree, in Education preferred, and a minimum of three years of teaching experience, of which at least one year must have included using a Learning Management System and at least one year must have included team teaching using COIL pedagogies, is required.

Ability to be effective and productive working remotely with faculty with a variety of experience and attitudes towards blended and COIL teaching.

Ability to juggle multi-projects with competing priorities and meet deadlines;

Ability to learn new and adapt to new e-learning software tools, as needed;

Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment;

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (average 50%) and be available for out of hours meetings to accommodate overseas staff.
Preferred
-
M.A./M.S. degree in relevant discipline (Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education Technology) strongly preferred.

Experience using and coaching others to use video conferencing hardware and software for COIL team teaching is strongly preferred.
Hours
This is a full time role. Normal schedule is 37.5 hours per week, 9:00 to 5:30, Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of this position and the study abroad field, additional time beyond regular office hours and work on weekends and holidays is to be expected in this role.
