Job Title: Remote Instructional Designer

We have an opening for an articulate, confident Instructional Designer who has a passion for teaching and communicating. You will join a collegial, online team of engineers, developers and staff in a friendly, growing small company to help bring advanced online learning to thousands of technical professionals in countries and cultures all over the world. Your work will make a difference in helping people find employment and develop their careers.

 

Duties:

 

You will be working with the primary engineer who will define the purpose, general objectives, and rough outline of the courses. You will:

 

  • Assist the engineer with taking screenshots, screen capture movies, and photography.

  • Assist the engineer with developing the detailed course sequence and learning objectives.

  • Assist the engineer with writing quiz questions

  • You will take primary responsibility for the following (with assistance from the engineer and developer): Writing the complete course narrative (storyboard with complete texts and graphic concepts). Includes hand sketches of any new graphics to be created.

    • Assembling and building interactive online learning materials using narrative copy, photos, video and 3-D models.

    • Building all course pages using Adobe Animate and the company's templates and design guidelines.

    • Writing all text paragraphs in all pages in the course Creating, sourcing, and/or editing all graphics (drawn art, diagrams, photos, bitmaps, etc.).

    • Generating all animations using Animate Prepare the planning spreadsheet for the course by collating all content pages, quiz and skills test scoring, and reference materials.

    • Manage translation projects. Load courses to the LMS, configure course settings, and maintain the courses.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Very strong writing skills, including ability to write clear narrative prose

  • Experience in pictorial narrative writing, such as graphic novels or comics.

  • Demonstrable sense of curiosity and interest in learning about technical subjects. 3+ years of proven experience in Instructional Design theories, practice, and methods, including in technical e-learning courses.

  • Experience working with technical SMEs to build e-learning content.

  • Experience in narrative writing, such as instruction manuals and technical procedures.

  • Pencil 3D drawing skills, including basic perspective and isotropic sketches, basic human figures, and general objects. Ability to efficiently create, find, or outsource graphics to illustrate technical concepts. Excellent written and verbal communications and teamwork skills.

  • Adobe Animate (Flash Pro): drawing, animation, and basic AS3 scripts (preferred) Excel: basic formulas, tables, functions, searching. (preferred) Photoshop: basic photo editing and graphic creation. (preferred) Premiere, Camtasia, or other video editing programs: basic video editing. (preferred)
     

Education requirements:

 

  • ATD Master E-Learning Instructional Designer or E-Learning Instructional Design Certificate, or equivalent. (preferred) Basic Javascript or AS3 training. (preferred) Math at pre-calculus level. (preferred)

  • BA or BS required
     

Mentoring and training:

 

You will have full access to the company's satellite communications technical training catalog and you will work your way through relevant courses. You will be mentored by experienced satellite communications e-learning course creators in applications of instructional design to the technical student audience. You will be reimbursed for tuition for relevant online training courses. You will hone your Instructional Design, graphics, and narrative writing skills with feedback from colleagues and customers.

 

Work Environment:

SatProf offers a unique and exciting opportunity for the right candidate. We have a small, supportive, energetic, and geographically dispersed team. Your colleagues will be engineers, finance and admin directors, student support specialists, and software developers.You will work from home, nominally 9-5 Eastern time. Flex time is generally approved for special circumstances. You will engage continuously with your colleagues during the day using online chat and conferencing. You may be required to travel occasionally to meet with client organizations and to represent SatProf and our association partners at conferences and meetings.
