Department Summary
 

​The Office of the Provost (OtP) is responsible for carrying out the academic mission of the University of Oregon. In doing so, OtP works closely with faculty and staff to enhance academic excellence, student success, and the UO's overall academic profile. Led by the Provost, OtP is a dynamic office that leads and manages a variety of initiatives, processes, and services. A major initiative being led by OtP is to boost student success by strengthening infrastructure and support for UO's online courses. Online education expands the University of Oregon's educational mission beyond campus, enlarging UO's reach and amplifying the University's reputation as a leader in research and teaching. Further, online education and the goals of this initiative align with the presidential priorities of access, student success, excellence, and experience.

Position Summary

In support of the academic mission of the University of Oregon (UO) and reporting to the Associate Director, the Online Education Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty and graduate employees to design pedagogically sound curricula for online courses. By means of group workshops as well as individual faculty consultations, the Instructional Designer will promote quality standards, high-impact educational practices, and effective use of technology for teaching and learning. This position works closely with other instructional designers, videographers and video producers, instructional technologists, and the Teaching Engagement Program to promote synergistic support for faculty who develop and deliver online courses at UO.

Minimum Requirements
 

• Bachelor's degree.

• Two years of professional experience interpreting educational goals and developing effective pedagogical solutions.

• Professional Competencies

• Demonstrated understanding of instructional methods and curricular innovations in higher education.

• Proficiency with learning management systems.

• Demonstrated skill with multimedia authoring tools.

• Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

• Organization and management skills; ability to prioritize multiple projects and ability to manage projects from conception through completion.

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Ability to create content for print and web.

• Ability to learn new software with minimal time investment.
   

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree.

• Experience working with faculty members, graduate employees, and students from diverse disciplines and cultures.

• Experience delivering training in a workshop format.

• Experience authoring content using principles of universal design.

• Experience applying Quality Matters standards.

• Experience teaching online.

• Knowledge of learning theories.
